    Date Posted: 10 Apr 2008

The prestigious National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) will assemble for a two-day concert performance at the Recital Hall in UMS, Kota Kinabalu from 9 – 10 May 2008 under the direction of Resident Conductor Mustafa Fuzer Nawi.

The performances will entertain audiences with an assortment of classical harmonies such as the Tchaikovsky Symphony no.4 op.36 and Henri Wieniawski’s Legende op.17.

Resident conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra, Mustafa Fuzer Nawi is a well-known figure in the Malaysian classical music faculty with experiences that include appearances with the Cologne Chamber Orchestra in Europe, the Jong Twente Enshchede Symphony, Twents Symphony Enschede Orchestra, Oostgelers Symphony Orchestra in The Netherlands and Bocholt Collegium in Germany.

Also accompanying the National Symphony Orchestra is Malaysia’s award-winning soprano Syafinaz Selamat. The prominent songbird has won several accolades including the Gold Medal at the 1999 World Champion of Performing Arts in Los Angeles. Syafinaz is currently a lecturer at the MARA University of Technology, an advisor for The National Arts Academy and vocal master of The National Choir of Malaysia.

Since the inception of the National Symphony Orchestra in 1993, they have performed impressively in a number of memorable concerts over the years. Their performance this year would be its fourth appearance in Kota Kinabalu, having performed annually from the year 2000 to 2002. Their appearance in Sabah is one of the many efforts to promote performing arts, especially among the younger generation. It is also hoped that such performances will serve to inspire local artistes to further improve their respective crafts and inculcate a sense of appreciation towards this nature of music among the audiences here.

The National Symphony Orchestra is brought to you by Sabah Tourism Board and organized by its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sri Pelancongan Sabah Sdn. Bhd. Tickets are priced at RM250 and RM150 for the Premier Concert on 9 May and RM100 and RM50 for the concert on 10 May. Concerts performance for both days will start at 8pm.
