Many of the POWs on arriving at Sandakan spent the night here before being marched to camp. The stained glass windows were donated by Australian and British families and friends as a memorial to the prisoners and as a thanksgiving to the local people who risked and gave their lives to help them. The windows were dedicated in April 2005 to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the end of WW2.
