Bukit Gemok, Tawau

Strap on those hiking shoes and get ready to explore the untouched forest of Tawau’s Bukit Gemok, about 20 minutes away from city centre.

There is so much to admire along the journey, such as the massive trees that appear to reach endlessly to the sky and the elusive critters that scamper about. There are seven huts along the path where walkers can rest and unwind. After climbing for roughly an hour (depending on your fitness level), you’ll reach the Titian Selara canopy walkway.

At 231 metres long, it is one of Sabah’s longest canopy walkways. The breathtaking scenery encompasses the town center, the lovely shoreline, and the neighboring countryside. The descent from Bukit Gemok should take less time, but be aware that the trail turns muddy and dangerous during the wet season, so exercise caution.

The forest reserve was developed in the early 1990s and is now equipped with basic facilities such as washrooms and rest huts along the trail. Any land vehicle can be used to get to Bukit Gemok. Simply dress comfortably, drink enough of fluids, and prepare to be awed by the beautiful foliage along Bukit Gemok’s pathways.
