Pasta Pasta: The Most Affordable Pastas in Town

Tucked cozily between Nan Pei Hang Medical Hall and Kedai Kopi KTC in Gaya Street is Pasta Pasta, a local pasta restaurant that offers customers the experience to mix and match their own pasta! The simple and clean aesthetic of the small restaurant stands out, making it easy to be spotted by passersby’s. This comfortable little shop is open from 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. daily. Two of its other branches are located in Servay Putatan – near the exit – and Inanam Capital.

Pasta Pasta uses premium quality ingredients imported from France and Italy to make their dishes, but surprisingly, the food they serve does not break one’s bank. Apart from the affordability and quality of ingredients, Pasta Pasta also produces their very own meatballs and to make sure that their dishes are healthy. Instead of using the common cooking oil, the restaurant uses olive oil to prepare their cuisine. Considering the very affordable price, the portion of pasta in a single bowl is enough to fill one’s rumbling tummy. Another charm that this cozy restaurant has is that they incorporate local Sabahan products in their dishes, such as the spices they use.

The clean and simplistic decor of the little restaurant is further complemented by their open kitchen concept which showcases transparency and openness to customers. When one is visiting the restaurant, one will not just see a glimpse of the restaurant’s working space, but will also be able to observe how one’s food is being prepared and handled. On the other hand, for those who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of having to go out to eat at the restaurant, one can scroll through any available food apps, mainly Foodpanda, ShopeeFood, and GrabFood to place orders – quick and easy!

Now one might be wondering, what does Pasta Pasta have to offer? Well, Pasta Pasta offers customers with a selection of pastas – ranging from the classic Spaghetti, Penne Rigate, Rotini, and Macaroni to Rigatoni, Farfalle, and Linguine – which customers can mix and match with the varieties of delectable sauces and toppings listed in the menu. The preparation of pastas can either be saucy or baked, depending on one’s request. Either one wants the classic Spaghetti with tomato sauce or Rigatoni with tom yam sauce, there are “more than 2000 varieties” that one can try. For the pasta toppings, customers can either go with one type or multiple types from italian sausages, meatballs, sliced chicken, and turkey ham to seafood and smoked duck breast. Apart from the main star of the menu, they also offer grilled sausages and meatballs topped with sauces and gravy, not forgetting to mention their soup of the day that varies each day of the week.

During our visit, the soup of the day was mushroom soup and it was exceptionally creamy as well as adequately seasoned. With the provided chili flakes and powder, customers who prefer to have a little bit of spice in their food or soup can sprinkle in some extra seasoning.

For appetizers, we were presented with their self-made beef meatballs with tomato sauce. The meatballs tasted fresh, soft and a little bit salty, but the savory tomato sauce balances the taste. In addition to that, we also tasted their Italian chicken sausages & gravy. On the first bite, we could tell that they use high quality sausages and the gravy evens out the hint of spiciness as well as the tad bit saltiness of the sausages.

Moving on to the main course, each one of us crafted our own pasta combination and we enjoyed each fulfilling bite. Other than food, cold and juicy beverages as well as hot tea are available to quench one’s thirst. The restaurant also served us appetizing baked pastas; Rotini with tomato sauce and Macaroni topped with mozzarella cheese. The portions of their baked pastas are guaranteed to be satisfying. For those who crave a little sweetness after the savory pasta dishes, one can have a go with their jiggly coconut and milk pudding. The cold and smooth texture provides bliss, especially during hot weather.
