TM 22nd Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon (23rd - 24th August 2008) in Kinabalu Park, Sabah Malaysian Borneo

The TM 22nd Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon, which ended yesterday, saw Buff® Skyrunners Spaniard Agusti Roc Amador and French Corinne Favre emerged as triumphant winners of the Men's Open and Women's Open categories.

Agusti, who was ranked 9th in the Buff® SkyRunner® World Series FSA in the Men's category, clocked in at 2 hours, 44 minutes and 47 second at the finish line to rise to 1st place in the Buff® SkyRunner® World Series FSA rankings. Behind him were Japan's Toru Miyahara and Yokoyama Tadao, who registered the time of 2 hours, 49 minutes and 2 seconds and 2 hours 50 minutes and 18 seconds respectively.

Fourth place went to another Spaniard, Castaner Bernat and fifth place went to Malaysian Safrey Sumping.

Agusti Roc Amador reached the summit of Mount Kinabalu in record time, at 1 hour 38 minutes and 38 seconds, remaining the leader of the pack that ventured to conquer the granite peak all throughout the race. His finish was also an improvement to last year's time, where he arrived at the finish line 2 hours, 47 minutes and 32 seconds, after fellow Spaniard Killian Jornet Burgada. After this weekend's race held in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, Agusti has successfully pushed his rankings to beat Killian in the Buff® SkyRunner® World Series FSA rankings to currently hold the top spot.

France's Corinne Favre also improved her position in the Women's category of the Buff® SkyRunner® World Series FSA rankings, after securing first place at the TM 22nd Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon. Clocking in at 3 hours, 17 minutes and 29 seconds, Corinne beat her own personal best in her previous participations in the mount Kinabalu Climbathon. Her victory helped her to become 1st in the Buff® SkyRunner® World Series FSA rankings, in which she was previously ranked fourth.

Second place went to Malaysian Danny Kuilin Gongot, who came in at 3 hours, 36 minutes and 14 seconds and third place went to Mt Fuji International Mountain Race champion Kambara Yuri who finished at 3 hours, 37 minutes and 2 seconds.

Leszl Gitaruelas from the Philippines finished fourth while another Malaysian, Muidah Bolinting finished fifth.

Gold pendants were awarded to winners Agusti Roc Amador and Corinne Favre, along with USD4500 each. Second place winners earned USD4000 and a finisher's pendants each while third place winners gained USD3500 and a finisher's pendant. Cash prizes and finisher's pendants were awarded up to 15th position and a finisher's pendant for every participant who completed the race.

TM 22nd Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon also included a Men's Veteran category, where Malaysians Guainus Salagan and Sarun Sadi grabbed first and second place respectively. Guainus clocked in at 3 hours 12 minutes and 48 seconds while Sarun clocked 3 hours, 19 minutes and 41 minutes. Japan's Mitsuo Morioka came in third at 3 hours 21 minutes and 28 seconds. Guainus won a RM2000 prize while Sarun won RM1500 and Mitsuo RM100. All three of them also received a finisher's pendant.

After TM 22nd Mount Kinabalu International Climbathon, the Buff® SkyRunner® World Series FSA will have another race at United Kingdom's Ben Nevis before completing the circuit at Italy's Sentiero delle Grigne in the municipality of Pasturo.
