Discovering the JARI JARI SPA EXPERIENCE in Sabah, Borneo
Kota Kinabalu (Capital City)
Discovering the JARI JARI SPA EXPERIENCE in Sabah, BorneoThe unique and deeply satisfying experience offered by Jari Jari spa begins with our underlying philosophy: we believe in sharing our cultural traditional and the wisdom passed down through generations by offering relaxing and rejuvenating therapies that are distinctively Bornean.
While other cultures around Asia and in the West have their own styles of massaging, we offer an experience that is unique to Sabah—combining this with international standards of professionalism in training and spa management.
The treatments and healing rituals at Jari Jari spa are drawn from the rich cultural heritage of the Dusuns, the largest group of indigenous people in North Borneo.
Jari Jari’s Signature treatment, Dusun Lotud Inan (Award Winning for the Best Traditional Treatment) is derived from traditional massage as practiced by the Lotud Dusuns, a group from the Tuaran District just north of Kota Kinabalu. In this rice-growing region, the women learned from generation to generation how to massage away the aches and pains left after a day of back-breaking work in the paddy fields.
Their distinctive massaging technique involves applying pressure with the thumbs to the various pressure points in the body, magically unlocking the flow of energy, releasing tension and relaxing the muscles.
Jari Jari’s Signature Experience is marketed to Sabah’s many overseas visitors as a way to experience this little-known yet valuable aspect of the local Lotud Dusun culture. Nowhere else in the world can you experience the age-old techniques and ingredients used by the Dusun Lotud, which differ from the better known techniques in Bali, Thailand and India. This is a unique experience which no visitor should miss out on.
As guardians of this ancient tradition, the therapists here ensure that at Jari Jari Spa, the Massage comes not just from the hands but also from the heart.
