Tuaran: Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor said tourism operators are obliged to complement the Government efforts to promote the rapid pace of development of the tourism industry in the district.
In this respect, they should be more proactive in providing the necessary facilities towards increasing the tourist influx to the district, he said after launching the district tourism development committee at Shangri-La's Rasa Ria Resort, here, Thursday.
Hence, there was a dire need to promote the best products in all aspects of the industry, such as quality services and facilities, towards achieving common goals, he said.
Hajiji, who is Sulaman Assemblyman, said these should include local handicraft, comfortable accommodation and setting up homestay programmes in their respective villages.
He pointed out that the inception of the district tourism development committee was not aimed to replace the related agencies, but rather providing the necessary facilities and products, such as food, hospitality and tourism activities of interest to the foreign visitors.
He also said the committee reflected the smart partnership between the Government and the private sector in relation to the promotion of the local tourism industry.
In this respect, the local community would be required to support the various related incentives being formulated by the Government, he said.
The function involved 14 active tourism operators in the district.
The same function also saw Hajiji launching the webside of Linangkit Cultural Village Sdn Bhd.
The webtie http://www.linangkit.com focuses on the livelihood of the Dusun Lotud community, their traditions and culture, at Kampung Selupoh, near here.
It was formulated in collaboration with the Tuaran United Sabah Dusun Association (Usda).
