KOTA KINABALU: Residents and visitors to the city will be able to know more about Kota Kinabalu through a guide book that is now available in bookstores.
The book entitled "Sabah Colour Guide: Kota Kinabalu and Environs" was launched by Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun yesterday.
Authored by Wendy Hutton and published by Opus Publications Sdn Bhd, the 90-page book narrates, among others, the early days of the city (then Jesselton town) to its present state, the Kadazandusun community, Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, tourism, transportation, accommodation and many other facts about Kota Kinabalu.
Commending Wendy for her inspirational effort, Masidi said a lot of people wanted to share their thoughts of places and interesting events with others by coming up with their own books. Life would be less exciting if they could not produce books.
"Wendy deserves my full appreciation for her effort. She wrote a guide book on Kota Kinabalu although she herself is not from this part of the world.
"It is good to have many books about the city because it is a common thing for tourists to rush to the bookstores to buy books so that they can get the needed information on particular places," he said.
Masidi said the newly-launched book would be very useful to the visitors in discovering certain parts of Kota Kinabalu and hoped that Wendy will continue writing books on Sabah and its places of attraction.
He said the essence of the city will remain vibrant although there is a need to maintain it. Putting up buildings does not give life to the city but helps to enhance it.
