KOTA KINABALU, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- The strength of Sabah lies in the multi-racial harmony of Malaysians living in the State, and is one of the reasons why tourists are attracted to Sabah, said State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

He said Sabah and Sarawak, the two states in East Malaysia, practiced this when it came to race and religion which attracted tourists who came to Sabah besides for its rich, natural environment like the sea and the mountains.

"Tolerance happens in Sabah because we respect each other and we never ask two questions, that is what is your race or what is your religion, because that is something personal.

"This is why many come here ... We have 40 per cent repeat visitors to Sabah annually," he said during the Kota Kinabalu International City Parade in conjunction with Kota Kinabalu's 10th Anniversary welcome dinner here, Wednesday night.

Masidi, who is also Karanaan assemblyman and Ranau division Umno chief, said as a politician, he also practised the same thing when it came to his constituency, where all were considered equals as Sabahans.

The dinner was to welcome foreign dance troupe participants from Australia, Russia, Thailand, Korea, Japan, USA, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and China, who will showcase their respective cultural performances during Kota Kinabalu International City Parade this Saturday starting 7pm.
