Hong Kong Children’s Choir amazes crowd

KOTA KINABALU: A group of 58 lively and highly talented children from the Hong Kong Children’s Choir (HKCC) staged a one-night only fund-raising performance at the Star City Convention Hall on Saturday night.

The performance was a resounding success earning a standing ovation from the crowd after the group performed their last song of the night – Sayang Kinabalu.

According to the choir’s music director, Kathy Fok, the group has specially prepared this song for months just for this performance in Kota Kinabalu.

The choir has performed in Singapore prior to arriving here on Friday afternoon, making this their final stop of the choir’s tour.

The Hong Kong Children’s Choir, which was founded in 1969 in Hong Kong, is a non-profit-making charitable organization.

Over the years, HKCC has made tremendous contributions for children’s arts and education in Hong Kong, and also making impact in many parts of the world.

HKCC is now the biggest choir in the world. Since its inception 41 years ago, the organization has evolved into a diversified arts education organization for the children.

Under the leadership of Kathy, who is alos the principal conductor and an accomplished musician, together with more than 100 professional tutors, they have successfully developed the artistic talents and team spirit for over a generation of children in Hong Kong.

Money raised through this concert will be used to fund deserving community projects by the RCKK, one of which is the PolipPlus program, an initiative to eradicate polio within the community.

A number of schools, which have yet to be identified, will also benefit from the fund raised during this event.
