Deramakot Forest Reserve is the first natural tropical rainforest in the world to be certified as “well-managed” by the Forest Stewardship Council. This 55,507 hectares forest has also earned the rare distinction for being the longest certified rainforest in the world by the Forest Stewardship Council since 1997.

This forest generates an annual income of about RM10m-RM15m from its timber. The harvesting is carried out based on “Reduced Impact Logging” concept where only trees that have minimal impact on soil and the surrounding forests will be removed. Sustainable eco-tourism is seen as the alternative resources to contribute income for the ecological conservation fund.

Visitors are required to make pre-arrangement and booking with local tour operators.
