Sabah Fest – “A Celebration Of Sabah’s Natural Charms” To Be Held In 8 Locations!

KOTA KINABALU, THURSDAY, 13 JUNE – Sabah Fest is set to be held at selected locations within the city of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, from 15 June to 7 July 2019.

Grand Launching

The official launching of the festival will be held on 15 June at Laman Seni, Lembaga Kebudayaan Sabah from 12:00 noon onwards and will feature a line-up of cultural activities including traditional craft-making demonstration, traditional food and handicraft exhibition, cultural bazaar, food trucks and more.

There will be a full cultural show including traditional dances from two indigenous cultural groups, namely from Kota Marudu and Semporna:

  • Persatuan Kebudayaan Kesenian Warisan Tobilung Sabah (Kota Marudu) Tarian Mongigol
  • Persatuan Simunul Semporna (Semporna) Tarian Igal Tabawan

A special appearance by Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan 2019, Francesca Esther Nain together with the top 5 Unduk Ngadau Kaamatan winners; as well as Unduk Ngadau Api-Api/ Miss Tourism 2019 Allysa Jimeh Palaman-Roman, and the winner of Sugandoi Kaamatan Dabra Sia Ying Ying and runner-up Eylia Eyre Guntabid are set to grace the stage at 9:00 p.m.

“Apart from nature and wildlife, Sabah’s rich cultural heritage plays a big role in our tourism industry and hence, a variety of ethnic dances especially from areas beyond Kota Kinabalu are included. We have selected a few venues in the city which is visible to the tourists and public to view the various traditional dances which will be performed during the Sabah Fest Cultural Showcase,” said YB Datuk Christina Liew, Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah.

Local and international tourists are able to enjoy traditional dance performances such as Sumazau Penampang, Igal-Igal Semporna, Dansa Cocos Lahad Datu, and Anggalang Magunatip. Details as follows:
