“Sabah has always been and proven to be a popular wedding destination for local as well as international couples because of its beautiful landscape and amazing sunset view as the unique selling points and accessibility. The Virtual Wedding Festival will be a good step for our wedding planners in Sabah to revive and reintroduce their product offerings” said Noredah Othman, Chief Executive Officer of Sabah Tourism Board.

“The pandemic has caused a lot of dream weddings to be put on hold or scaled down, but the situation is gradually moving forward. We hope to bring the romantic excitement back and provide brides-to-be with the prospect of planning a future wedding in Sabah,” she added.

Abby Chang, director of Dream Couture said “In view of destination weddings, as a local based planner, we offer advice on the unique experiences a couple could receive in traveling away from their home city. We are their liaison to communicate with the travel industry to fascinate our clients in the beautiful part of the world that we live in.”

Sabah Tourism Board will also be conducting a live B2B closed session on the 8 Oct with invited speakers from the participating Sabah booths as well as wedding photographer – Mr Jon Yehsi from Jonyehsi Studio.

As a wedding photographer based in Kota Kinabalu, Jon shares that Sabah is a popular medium class wedding and pre-wedding destination for couples.

“Since Sabah is strategically located in the middle of the South East Asia region, our state offers a similar landscape and is comparable to destinations alike Phuket, Bali and Boracay. Couples can get their affordable dream wedding packages here curated by a professional team” he said.

Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort & Spa wedding planner Amanda Wong is confident that the virtual wedding festival is a great channel for couples to browse their options in the safety of their homes.

“We have chosen to participate as this platform has provided couples with a one stop shop with sufficient visual experience, a channel to connect and showcase our beautiful venue to the couples” she commented.

Meanwhile, according to Alice Sum, Senior Sales Manager of Sutera Harbour Resort, they would like to guide newlyweds about the new norm wedding concept. She quoted that couples might prefer a more intimate wedding ceremony with compliance to Government SOP.
